Set in the time of the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco, this epic story looks back on a darker time in Sapphic history when family, science and the state all conspired against two women in love. A Love To Keep tells the story of Pilar and Elvira, two teachers in Spain during the waning years of the Franco era. They meet and become friends, and before long the two fall deeply in love. When Pilar's family finds out, they have her committed to an asylum. Enduring painful years of electroshock therapy, behavioral conditioning, and isolation, she remains devoted to Elvira. Upon Pilar's release, the two find each other again. But the memories of Pilar's ordeal will not quickly fade, and the scars again test their bond.
